Position Overview
As the Packaging Engineer at Wanzl North America, you will play a crucial role in the successful integration of new products into our manufacturing and supply chain processes. This position will design, testing, and implementation of packaging designs that are an integral part of the new product introduction (NPI) process. They will work closely with the new product development (NPD) team, as well as the supply chain and manufacturing teams to develop packaging that is functional, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop packaging components and systems for new and existing products, considering factors such as product protection, sustainability, cost, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure packaging meets product requirements and brand standards.
- Conduct packaging testing and validation, including physical and environmental stress testing, to ensure product integrity during shipping, handling, and storage.
- Optimize packaging for the supply chain, considering factors such as palletization, transportation, and storage efficiency.
- Evaluate and select packaging materials and support procurement with information to help select suppliers, negotiate contracts to ensure quality and cost objectives are met.
- Stay current with packaging technology advancements, materials, industry trends, and sustainability practices.
- Develop and maintain packaging specifications, standards, and documentation.
- Lead cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement projects related to packaging.
- Ensure packaging compliance with industry regulations and standards, including environmental and safety regulations.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for packaging-related issues during production.
- Coordinate with external packaging vendors and internal stakeholders to manage timelines and project deliverables.
- Utilize CAD software and other design tools to create packaging prototypes and mock-ups.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Proven experience in packaging design and development, preferably in a related industry.
- Strong understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and testing methodologies.
- Proficiency in CAD software and other design tools.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to packaging.
- Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Minimal travel
